(for the reply guys in the back: no signal doesn’t collect your IMEI. we know what signal collects from previous court orders they’ve talked about: phone number and last login date. we know from their implementation notes that even their paid feature doesn’t correlate your payment info and your account info. it turns out there is actually a difference between good actors and bad actors in the security and privacy space and we know which is which from the consequences of using their services.)

and come the fuck off it if you think anyone’s falling for proton not being a privacy service except for when it’s convenient to market it as one.

at this point I can’t name a use case proton’s good for. there’s better VPNs for torrenting <creative commons videos of stallman being a creep in public>. there’s encrypted drive and collaboration options built on better cryptosystems. the only way to use proton safely is to have perfect opsec, but nobody I know with good opsec uses proton.

fuck no, I was a proton user til they released a fistful of not actually end-to-end encrypted LLM tools and a fucking bitcoin wallet and then their CEO predictably came out in favor of fascists. this gave me the context I needed to harshly reconsider their track record.

in an ideal world signal would be nothing special, but unfortunately we’re in the real world and signal is the one of the only things reliably doing table stakes privacy.
