If true (do you have a source please?) then this is an all too predictable disgrace. War is sometimes necessary in defence against an aggressor, always a sombre and regrettable undertaking and NEVER fun. The sinking of an unarmed warship in international waters far from the theatre of the war and the callous abandonment of survivors to their fate was not something to be rejoiced - it was a war crime. One of many.
