I don't know if folks are paying enough attention to the CA gov's race.

It's currently a clown car of Dems with a few MAGA - and 1 MAGA in disguise - thrown in.

Which means that June 2nd (the primary) is going to be a hot mess of epic proportions.

It's also complicated.
Because while it is *absolutely imperative* CA remain blue, the type of Blue matters, too.

For my work, CA must continue to be a place where worker-friendly and gender-friendly policy incubation advances so that we here in CA and in other states can build a bulwark against further civil rights deterioration of the govt.

Having a 'run CA like a business' mod or a cop-friendly mod would make putting up a strong resistance to Trump impossible.

I look at the current field and I'm just eeeeeeeesh on all of them.

Like, if the CA Governor's primary was a movie where we're all trapped on an isolated outpost, and someone is killing everyone but able to disguise themselves as a normie, I'm looking at ALL of them with a massive side eye.

The only one I trust is ME.

This is NOT to discourage anyone from voting in the primary.

Again, it is IMPERATIVE CA remain Blue. IMPERATIVE in so many ways to the broader resistance against Trump.

But gotdamn.

Do your best, y'all.

The THING.
That was the movie I was thinking of.

Here's a good rundown of all the major players in the race:

Who's running for California governor? Here’s a look at the current field of candidates

After recent shakeups, 10 candidates remain in the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom next year, including Eric Swalwell and Katie Porter.

CalMatters
@DeliaChristina Betty Yee and Tony Thurmond are the only decent-seeming ones to me and they're each polling below 5%.
@scott @DeliaChristina Katie Porter? I loved how she held corporate heads to account with her white board when she was in congress. Something I don’t know about her?

@BegoniaArizona @DeliaChristina Katie Porter has moved to the right. Said at this debate that she didn't support single-payer healthcare and affirmed her support for Prop 36.

I now see in a recent article she's flipped to supporting single-payer again. But why didn't she last year? Anyone's better than Matt Mahan though.

Four takeaways from California's first gubernatorial debate since Kamala Harris said she wasn't running

In a darkened airport hotel ballroom room, a bevy of California Democrats sought to distinguish themselves from the crowded field running for governor in 2026. It was not an easy task.

Los Angeles Times
@scott @DeliaChristina I wasn’t aware that happened. Grateful to have you share that. Thank you.

@scott @BegoniaArizona

And this is why I don't trust her.
I am stressed about which constituency she'd sacrifice to appeal to the deadly middle.

@DeliaChristina There was negative press about her “temperament” and harassing staff too, but since she’s a she, I figure that kind of stuff comes with the race. Not her temperament, but being blasted about it.
Full disclosure, I contributed to her campaign today. I thought she was effective in Congress and has scruples, whether she changed her mind on single payer or not, it’s not necessarily about surrendering principles to come to different conclusions and then change your mind. Good enough shouldn’t be the enemy of perfect, and with the jungle primary rules giving spots on the November ballot to the top two finishers I think coalescing behind one Democratic candidate is better than many splitting the votes and putting two R’s up on the ballot.
