I always wondered if google killing the greader service was due to ad revenue of websites. Bit confused why the article doesnt mention #capyreader and #freshrss as far as im concerned thats how you want to manage your rss feeds in 2026.

@Gh0stlyM0use if I use CapyReader, why do I need Freshrss? I can just use all rss feeds directly as "local" feeds. What is freshrss for?
@stevE freshrss is a local rss server. It allows you to sync your feeds between devices. Useful if you make notes and save articles on the fly to access on a desktop or desemimate to other places.
@Gh0stlyM0use thank you! So I could make notes in CapyReader and sync them? That could be useful. Which software would I use on Linux for handling those notes?
@stevE way i do it is. Freshrss is the server. Capy reader is the client. So any changes to capy are updated to freshrss. When accessing from linux desktop i use the freshrss in a webbrowser . (I mainly use it to sync between my tablet and phone). But.... speculating id say Thunderbird would manage it and looks like Obsidian has a few import scripts that would work. Basically if you can signup to a feed server (like capy) to the program you can send freshrss content.

@Gh0stlyM0use ok, cool, thank you very much!

I'm still not sure I need this (I only read rss with CapyReader on my Smartphone) but maybe the notes could be helpful, or having centralized favorites...

@stevE its not for everyone (takes some time and knowledge to setup like creating and managing docker containers on a server). I use it so my phone bandwidth doesnt get hammered scrapping sites. It does require some extra setup to access externally. Is more for the self hosting community.
@Gh0stlyM0use i found it in Softaculous, so it should be easy to setup for me. But I just did check the demo.freshrss.org and couldn't find a way to add notes. Could you maybe point me to the function for notes?
@stevE i just looked and think i told a lie. Sorry. Looks like there was a request for notes feature in 2024 and i saw the latex extension and thought it was to add an annotation feature not the ability to read latex files. Thats on me. So yeah its more just storage of articles and not hammering your phones bandwidth.
@Gh0stlyM0use ah, thank you. In this case it's enough for me to go with my "local" feeds in CapyReader. Thanks for your info anyway. 🤗
