EDIT EDIT: Tony Hoare probably did pass away https://blog.computationalcomplexity.org/2026/03/tony-hoare-1934-2026.html

EDIT: Tony Hoare may have not, in fact, passed away

Tony Hoare has passed away https://lefenetrou.blogspot.com/2026/03/in-memoriam-tony-hoare.html

Rest in processes, may they be communicating even if individually sequential

Tony Hoare (1934-2026)

Turing Award winner and former Oxford professor  Tony Hoare passed away last Thursday at the age of 92. Hoare is famous for quicksort, ALGO...

Damn that's Carl Hewitt and Tony Hoare both gone. I know Gul Agha really did a lot of work to clean up actors to make them make sense, but that's the two of the leaders of predominent paradigms of asynchronous programming gone
(In before Carl Hewitt's ghost tells me I don't understand actors again, as he did with me personally and everyone else who ever implemented actors)
@cwebber I'm sure there's an "interrupting Carl Hewiit's ghost" joke around somewhere
@cwebber the true actor model has never been implemented.
@alys @cwebber If you see the true actor model upon the road, kill it.
