Mar 7, 1950 Israel is not a single nation today. Two Israels co-exist here that of the 700,000 old settlers, and that of the 350,000 new immigrants. The first is a compact nation, the second a conglomeration of numberless communities. The old' and the new Israel differ from each other economically, in social outlook, culture and political interest.
Apr 4, 1950 #UN Britain and the United States abstained today from voting when the United Nations Trusteeship Council adopted a Statute internationalising the entire Jerusalem area. Under the Statute, the entire Municipality of Jerusalem and its surrounding towns and villages will be placed under UN control. Holy places and access to them will be the responsibility of a Government to be appointed by the Council.
Mar 3, 1951 NYT The spokesman said there had been continuous talks between the Israeli and United States Governments over the last two years on the strengthening of Israeli armed forces through arms purchases and the placing of Israeli service men in United States training establishments.

Mar 5, 1951 TIME A half-million immigrants have joined the half-million population which the state of Israel had when it was set up in 1948. New arrivals are herded into a former British army camp renamed Shaar Aliyah (Gate of Immigration), for two weeks or so of medical isolation.

In 1948, European Jews outnumbered Orientals four to one. Last year the balance began to swing the other way round: 60% of the immigrants were Orientals. The percentage will go much higher.

The Jews from Yemen, living culturally and technologically in about the year 1000 AD, are segregated from all the rest. They have almost nothing in common even with other Oriental Jews.

Mar 9, 1951 NYT Through their work, made possible by the financial help of the public, 200,000 Jews will be assured of passage to Israel before emigration deadlines cut them off. Some 400,000 distressed Jews in Europe and North Africa will be assisted under the plans.

In all, it is hoped to establish 120 new agricultural settlements and build 10,000 housing units for Israel's new citizens. The program is intensive and farreaching. Its breathtaking scope calls for all the financial aid that can be given to it.

Mar 23, 1951 #WWII NYT As of the end of 1950, more than 510,000 immigrants had entered Israel, increasing the country's over-all population by 78 per cent within a period of two and one-half years. An additional 500,000 new immigrants are expected within the next four years.

At the same time Mr. Eban said he handed Secretary Acheson another note containing Israel's claim for reparations against Germany amounting to $1,500,000,000 related both to the losses suffered by Jews at the hands of the Germans and to the financial cost of rehabilitation of Jewish victims from countries formerly under Nazi control.
