Never knew Steinbeck tackled King Arthur but I immediately grabbed it when I saw it in the Little Free Library I sometimes frequent. His lefty ass might give an interesting take on the mythos that have never really appealed to me but maybe in this form they will.

My friend who loves the Arthurian legends and grew up with them didn't highly recommend this book cause it is unfinished and limited in scope, but he was super pumped about the opportunity to talk about works about Arthur.
@famousblueben i still would like to read this. i may try to find myself a copy
@famousblueben Joseph Campbell spoke about the Arthurian myths a lot. It's not been a big interest of mine but I did really enjoy the fiction series about Merlin by Mary Stewart many years ago.
@famousblueben what the.....???? yes, share with the class when you are done. im quite curious.
@famousblueben I've read and really liked a couple of Steinbeck, and like myths in general, but especially King Arthur and Robin Hood. I'll have to have a look for this!

@famousblueben

TH White's version (The Once and Future King) is a pacifist reading of Arthur with emphasis on how a nation can be stably governed. It's well worth a read. It starts with The Sword in the Stone, which is relatively light-hearted, but gets more serious as it progresses.

@dhobern Thanks for the recs, I'll make note of them!
