My sweet summer child, they would do this is if they knew that there weren’t going to be anymore elections. if they’re 100% sure they can pull that off then they will start mandatory conscription.

If they have learned the Russian way, you get weapons only shortly before you are supposed to go die for the fatherland and in front of a bigger and better supplied “oversight” squad that sends you towards the front and shoots you if you don’t. Oh and they are in a well defensible position, of course.

There are parts of the military that get special privileges for ‘guiding’ the new recruits to the front. Privileges like not going to the front themselves.
