In my car at HEB (a large TX supermarket chain) waiting for curbside groceries pickup and in the row of empty, wheeled racks in front of me were several of these great-tailed #grackles - (AKA by me PLBs, Parking Lot Birds) serenading me with their unique raucous cacophony.

@Trilobyter The HEB Grackle Halloween costume is a classic.

@Trilobyter Really miss HEB; don't miss the grackle roosting tree mess.

Good hashtag, I'll have to remember that one.

@bosquebill and that reminded me of the time while I was attending UT-Austin that I went with a group of friends to see a show down near 6th St and my friend parked his car under a small tree. Came back a couple of hours later and the tree was filled with grackles and the car was completely, ridiculously covered with grackle poop. Of course we immediately said “Party-Barn!” (a drive-thru beverage place - you actually drove through the building to pick up) & received some great reactions there. 🤣
@Trilobyter Ha, ha, ha.
Do they still have drive-thru liquor stores in Texas? Or have they finally realized that was an engraved invitation for drinking while driving?
@bosquebill not sure, probably somewhere. I’m old enough to remember when open containers in cars was still legal in TX and seeing commuters in Houston freeway traffic clutching a beer in one hand and the steering wheel in the other.
@Trilobyter I think we're "of an age" so I kinda remember that.
@Trilobyter @bosquebill
After that : Taco Cabana!

@knutson_brain @Trilobyter Luckily Taco Cabana is in NM. The local joints have tastier food, but not always drive-thru's so I hit up TC frequently during the pandemic.

As an aside, most national chains here (McD, BK, WG, etc) offer green chile option for the cheese burgers! Regional favorite.

@Trilobyter grackle is such a great word
@Trilobyter Grackles gonna grack... I love how bossy they are.
@Trilobyter Your photographs have brought me so much pleasure over the last year or so. Especially the birds and butterflies. The focus and depth of field are always spot on, and they also communicate a caring for nature that's unusual.
