Maybe I should have a canned explanation for how trash the IBT is as a source, but as a proxy for that: we don’t use it as much as we reasonably can on Wikipedia (a source which, funnily, I’ve seen the IBT cite for claims not about Wikipedia).

Null User ObjectTangent: I would love to see a Lemmy feature that allows community mods to unilaterally block links to specific domains within their community. So, in this case, the poster would get an immediate notification that their post was not allowed due to the link being to a low quality source, and a suggestion to find the same story on a more reputable site.
Seems like a generalized automoderator tool might be handy that would allow a wide variety of actions :)

Same! I feel like it’s a group effort sometimes to verify a source.
Sometimes, I see a post on social media, notice there’s not enough conversation, and so I bookmark it. A few hours later, it’s gone.
I have no idea if it was taken down because of fake news, taken down because the OP decided to remove it, or my tinfoil hat of The Gubberment overreaching.
