Just born, this tiny Kentish plover chick has come to see the ocean for the very first time. Covered in soft down, it chirps a gentle "peep peep" as it takes in the waves.

Kentish plovers are shorebirds that raise their young along Japan's sandy beaches. This chick weighs only about 5 grams and measures around 6 centimeters long- lighter than a 500-ven coin, and about half the weight of a marshmallow.
