#MARCHintosh - google & duckduckgo are no help with this -
does anyone know why in system 7.1, a disk wont allow renaming? I have two 'Macintosh HD' volumes and I cant rename either of them. I thought maybe I was clicking too slow or too fast, but no, folders and files rename just fine.

Are you able to rename them if you boot from an install or recovery CD? Or a different bootdisk?

@vileboss are you file sharing from them?

If so, turn off file sharing while renaming them.

@europlus ahhh.. that makes sense. file sharing is on, no shares on those disks, but the disk I do have a share on has same behavior.
If I disable file sharing I'm able to rename them all. Thanks!
