When companies do things like this, it actually hurts their image more than if they did nothing at all. It's obviously performative, green washing, a line item on a PR budget, not a strategic initiative.
@sleepyfox ...But we'll take the 100m if it does any good at all. Lord knows we can't count on the government to back research of any useful kind anymore. I don't care if the motives include PR and such. They could conduct business as usual and not give anything at all.
@tottinge It's like getting an 'employee of the month' award, or a ten quid gift voucher when your team successfully delivers a project that brings in the company several million. Psychology research shows small rewards are worse than no reward at all for employees.
