There’s something tragic about Cybertruck owners, and it’s nothing to do with Elon.

They seem to be wildly impressed by their vehicle doing the most mediocre things that any AWD vehicle can do.

A cyber truck does not actually qualify as a truck. Their owners do, on the other hand, qualify as complete douche canoes.
Most pickup trucks in the US aren’t used as trucks, nor used off road. They are status symbols. The Cybertruck fits right into this category. It’s shiny and stands out of the crowd.

it’s shiny

I mean, not really

@Samskara The CT is sort of the ultimate distillation of the 'truck' as masculine status symbol, since it's ridiculous in almost every way possible, offensive in many ways, needlessly dangeorus, and not actually good for much. It's sort of the ultimate douchemobile. It tells the world, "I have crippling insecurities I'm willing to go into horrible, ill-advised debt to try to assauge, for the sake of my fragile ego." Or, "I'm just a huge douchebag."

It’s more like

I have the most rad car ever. Others are jealous or just don’t get it.

People use all kinds of inconvenient less useful things and feel proud for being special for it. Like Arch Linux users for example.

@Samskara The difference between someone obtaining Arch Linux or a CT is $60-100K. It's not meaningful to compare those things, even if the motives are identical.

A given Linux nerd might just be a little weird, but they're not going to ruin their life by it, or anyone else's. The kind of person who'd sink the value of half a bachelor's degree into a gigantic, wasteful, dangerous fashion accessory just to feel better about themselves has a very serious problem.
