Typing Code By Hand > Using #AI To Write Code For You

If you're a programmer and use #Claude or whatever to write your code, I'm laughing in your fucking face.

"But learning code is so hard and takes time!" YES- THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT. Do the hard work or don't fucking do it at all.

Using AI to write code for you is just using other's code and it will have more errors than if you just learned how to write it yourself.

Stop being a piece of shit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Signed,
Someone who taught myself the code I currently know

P.S. - AI will never ever be good at what their creators claim it will. They are banking on you believing their lies.

@trinityblair yes, plus all of the massive ethical problems with the technology

@lumi yes, there's a lot but the point of this thread specifically is about how it's just not useful for writing code and never will be.
@trinityblair i'm happy to hear more and more people echo that sentiment. the industry is at a fever pitch about it right now and it's unbearable

these overinflated ego techbros types are also the worst kinds of people to deal with
@lumi just blocked one actually. 😬 Tried using a technicality in what I said to counter my entire argument. Their entire MO, honestly.
@trinityblair ugh sorry to hear that, you don't deserve to deal with them

eventually their overusage will just lead to their skills (or whatever is left of them) atrophying and eventually the cognitive debt coming due. if the tech is even still subsidized heavily at that point. they could just lose their ability to code over genai companies raising their prices

not like these people ever really cared about the craft of coding, they just see it as a means to an end, and then downplay the value of actually learning the skill. i actually like coding, i love doing this stuff, give me the respect i deserve, ugh (tho, not like they ever cared about respecting their fellow humans
🙄)

they'll also just bury the massive ethical issues under the rug and act like they don't exist

@lumi @trinityblair

The ridiculous 300k$/year wages Americans pumped into it bring out those sorts. If they'd kept reasonable/normal engineering wages (rather than wages clearly inflated by monopolistic aspirations & billionaire plots) those assholes would've gone somewhere else.

Rejoice!

I was a 10x engineer. Now I'm useless.

@lispi314 @trinityblair the whole tech industry has been really messed up since way before genai. software quality has been going down for whiiiile. and the tech industry actively wants to go against people's consent. it's actually horrifying

proprietary software should never have existed in the first place. these big centralized platforms should also never have existed

all of this concentrated power and feeds these monopolies
@lispi314 @trinityblair having an actual holistic ethical and sustainable tech movement is sorely needed
@lumi @trinityblair Yeah, much of the Free Software movement and I sound like conspiracy theorists and yet... we're pretty much proven right at every turn?
@lispi314 @trinityblair i do feel the fsf is a bit myopic in their vision, but when it comes to proprietary software they are 100% correct

@lumi @trinityblair Free Software is insufficient to achieve a Free Society.

It just means that the ability to co-opt liberating technologies for enslavement is mitigated to an extent.

You don't get that Free Society with a more ethical or better tech movement. You get it by actually fixing society. By building that Free Society.

There are reasons why such intercontextual awareness was not present in the past, and some of it is literally as simple as the glowies doing their utmost to strangle civil rights organizations and anarchist influence whenever they became noticeable. So even hearing about organized movements rather than having to personally re-think them from scratch becomes unlikely which already imposes much greater opportunity cost.

Free Software escaped that fate by a mix of being pretty niche and not having direct applicability outside the minds of futurists (at least until it wasn't already far too late to quietly disappear it).
