okay so

i found some old instructions

and the firmware chunks i need was still on the .hk webserver (even tho' they're not on the north american server)

so if i boot my 11-year-old Intel macbook pro I should be able to boot my Windows 2000 VM to format this 6-year-old thumb drive to a version of NTFS this thing will use, and that will let me write the files to it that the Pocket 2 wants, then I should be able to F7 into system recovery and from there reinstall the OS.

this was btw the entire point of this exercise so

achievement unlocked, office zelda successful

basically i can use this little pocket2 as a highly portable radio controller device because some of that shit absolutely requires windows and as long as the software doesn't minding sharing space with cortana then it can be as antique a version of windows as anyone could want

(and yes networking is off now long term)
