Proton is a honey pot. If you are using it as an activist you should think twice about what its actually providing you.

@liaizon I mean Proton is bad and people should move away from it. But I don't think that should be the main takeaway from this story.

"(Most) common payment providers are bad. People in the high risk group, like activists and journalists, *should not* use KYC payment methods. And we desperately need alternatives." I feel is more fitting.

@liaizon Tuta's primary payment methods are bank transfers, cards and Paypal. I'm sure they'll give away client's payment info upon request too.

(People can also buy gift cards from a third party for cash or crypto to pay for Tuta, I seriously doubt it's used a lot tho. At the very least it's an extra step and a whole extra co to deal with)

@flpvsk @liaizon posteo (germany) has async and even a cash payment option. Wonder why others can't do that.
They even go so far as to not support custom domains, as the entries would have them tie identifiable information to your account, to which they fundamentaly object (pain in the ass tbh)
@Wortex17 @flpvsk @liaizon mailbox.org takes cash, too 🤙
@malte @Wortex17 is sending cash in an envelope reliable within DE/EU? I've never actually tried that.
@flpvsk @Wortex17 i think so yeah, but for posteo/mailbox, you can also just drop it of in person 🤷‍♀️
