Yesssssss

Slay The Spire 2's placeholder art should be a lesson to all the developers caught up in AI-generated nonsense

Rather than get caught up in the generative AI debate, Slay The Spire 2's developers have worn their placeholder art on their sleeves

Rock Paper Shotgun
@cwebber there should be a mode that replaces all the art with the placeholders. I love it.
@Scmbradley @cwebber in the first game that's something you unlock once you beat the game, wouldn't be surprised if they added that again

@HeNeArXn @Scmbradley Yeah! And you can set it per-card

Some of the placeholder art is better than the final ones. Especially "Immolate", "Tantrum", "Fasting", "Wraith Form", and "Whiplash" are really good

@HeNeArXn @Scmbradley The watcher ones are a bit different because some of the "beta art" actually came out later, so it's basically fanart made after the fact, but some of them are so good

@HeNeArXn @Scmbradley I love Slay the Spire so much it's kind of a problem

I haven't gotten to play StS2 right now. I currently quarantine all my proprietary gaming to my Switch (1).

@cwebber I'd buy it like that!

@cwebber

That's reaching new nadirs of ugliness. It must be said. Small children and sensitive persons should not look

@cwebber it's so cute omg lol
@cwebber Honestly that should be kept for a toggle option.
@cwebber
And you know what else? It's fun! As a dev it's fun to take however long to scribble something out in MS Paint or whatever! And it's just as much fun as an early accesser to see the developer art, made with more love than skill.
@cwebber that's what I keep thinking! Game developers, indie and professional, for the past 30+ years, have figured things out, how to make graphics for their games WITHOUT generative AI! It's clearly not needed.
