genai uses way more resources and uses more specialized equipment, it's not like other datacenter workloads

this also means it causes way more e-waste

also, don't get me started about all the other issues with it, there are just so many

@lumi right?! If they wanted to pick a comparable data center to AI ones, cloud data centers are the pick but nope- they chose phones? Cloud centers while not even close to the harm that AI centers have, are the only ones we currently have that do have environmental costs.

Just tells me they have no fucking idea what they are talking about.

@trinityblair cloud datacenters generally don't require huge arrays of gpus, as they use more general-purpose hardware afaik

it's still bizarre to talk about phones, though. i guess what they mean is your reliance on servers in datacenters, but lots of devices make connections with those, not just your phone
