for those that are not aware: you can use markdown on the glitch-soc fork of mastodon. you can enable it by either:

• enabling it in settings → preferences → posting defaults, which should also enable it for clients not aware of glitch-soc features, or
• entering app settings → compose box and toggling "Show content-type choice when authoring toots"

you don't ever need to use the unicode formatting here (which is notoriously inaccessible to screen readers)
