Looking north up Hutcheston Street in the Merchant City area of Glasgow.

On the right is the former Merchants' House, designed in a Classical style by Clarke and Bell, and built in 1842, while on the foreground on the left is the former John Glen and Co ware house designed by Thomson, Sandilands and MacLeod and constructed around 1930.

Further away on the left is an 1860s Italianate style warehouse. In the middle is the former Hutcheson's Hospital, designed by David Hamilton and constructed in 1802. These buildings were constructed over a 130 year period, and yet they come together to form a single united streetscape, tied together by the use of similar materials and classical motifs.

This has always been one of Glasgow's architectural strengths, but somewhere in the last 90 years since the last one was built, we seem to have largely forgotten how to blend old and new to create such unified streetscapes.
