What would the world be without women? What would punk be without women? ❤️

For me, there's no other music genre that offers such a wide variety of personalities and voices.

A very large, maybe majority, of punk photographers were women, and a few I've talked to said it was because it was one of the ways for women to participate and be left alone and respected.

@historyofpunkrock All these women were/are utterly amazing, and deserve all our love, respect and admiration.

But it's important to remember that many (most?) HC punk scenes in the early 80s - SoCal I'm talking about you - were absolutely dominated by unexamined toxic masculinity, making these scenes quite hostile places for women's voices. Of course there were shining exceptions and yes there are some incredible women who came though that 1980 - 1984 period better for it. Yet there were lots more who were pushed out or had to step away because of unchecked sexism.
