How much network bandwidth can I use before my ISP does something? Can I just saturate my uplink 24/7?
@dimin If you don't have data caps, saturate away :)
@dimin wouldn't it be funny if you were being all conscientious about it, but almost all the customers were already doing it and the people at the ISP weren't paid enough to care.
@RueNahcMohr last time I tried after 3 days I started seeing insane packet loss. I had to rate limit myself to 90% of the advertised upload speed within my own router using a smarter algorithm than the taildrop they're using on their end...
@dimin check your contract, usually ISPs put some rubber-rules in there such as "no commercial use", "hosting servers is forbidden", "we may limit abusively high traffic to protect our network/QoS"
Usually they are not enforced, but they are flexible enough to use as an excuse against someone who annoys them.
@Methylzero good point, but like me uploading data to a cloud backup is none of the above, so if I wanted to roleplay an American I could go and sue them.
