The Red Hot Chili Peppers are the worst band of all time.

In some countries, if you’re caught shoplifting, you’re tied to a chair and forced to listen to Anthony Kiedis scat until you slowly go insane.

@TheVinylApe I'm sorry, but until you're stuck in a car for 3 hours crawling out of Gillette after the U2 concert and forced to listen to Journey, REO Speedwagon, and God knows whatever similar bands of slop, your opinion holds no weight with me. #TrueStory

@fc no need to be sorry.
But the ā€œslopā€ you mentioned is nothing but aural wallpaper, and easily ignorable to my brain. It’s like listening to the wind blow.

The RHCP make me ragingly angry. Their music is such low-rent wankery spearheaded by a former junkie who fancies himself some kind of gutter prophet.

I understand it’s different for each individual person. But I’d rather listen to those wallpaper bands over them ten times out of ten.

But don’t be sorry.
Never be sorry.

@TheVinylApe That wasn't a REAL "sorry," just a figure of speech.

That wallpaper makes me lose the will to live. I mean maybe some I could ignore but Journey? Cruel and unusual punishment. Despair.

Point taken about RHCP; you articulated better than I could why I feel vaguely queasy when they come up. Back in the day their first album or so was refreshing but they've way outlived their shelf life.

However, I will always like Flea.

@fc one other thing I’ll say about this for the spirit of the conversation.

I’ve worked in MANY record stores in my life, as well as labels, music marketing, and as a touring musician playing with lots of bands myself.

I have been exposed to an UNFATHOMABLE amount of REPREHENSIBLY BAD and ATROCIOUS music over my lifetime.
Like… the stuff of nightmares.

I’ve forgotten more of this music than the average person REMEMBERS good music.

So I fully get why some would hear the wallpaper and think it was worse than any bad thing that’s ever happened, but to me, in the context of the intense humming of pure aural evil I’ve been exposed to over the years… the wallpaper is closer to The Beatles. šŸ˜‚

But the Peppers?
Musically speaking… nothing is more offensive to me.
And I’m 1,000,000% sure that Flea is a great guy.
By all accounts… that seems to be true.

But I could sit at an insurance seminar FOR HOURS with a smile on my face.
Cuz THEIR music wouldn’t be playing.

@TheVinylApe Totally fair, and I really respect that kind of visceral reaction to music. I may share a person's opinions (and obvs I share lots of yours) or completely disagree (which I may, re some of yours - it could happen) but anyone with that kind of strong feeling about music is mi compadre.
@TheVinylApe And btw since we're being all kumbaya? Earlier today I was scrolling through your feed, and - what a treat! All that glorious vinyl. I swear I was going to say this at some point anyway but it fits nicely here.

@fc thank you kindly!
That’s just my study library where I typically listen to music. There’s tons more strewn about my house in the basement, upstairs, living room….

It’s literally everywhere.
The shelved records in the bookshelf in the pictures are the only ones with any semblance of organization.

I’m working on it. šŸ˜‚
It’s an eternal struggle.
