I have heard it said that a good indicator of someone's status within a work hierarchy is how long it takes before someone can be away before they are missed. For a janitor, hours at most.
BTW this dialogue is a classic. Saw it first during Trump I.

When asked he said he has two fears: Without him nothing might work and it's total chaos, the other fear is everything is normal, no one even notices he's gone and he's therefore not really needed at all.
