SirWumpus 👾🍁@RussSharek vim (or nvi on *BSD) and ed are stock and standard. You can typically count on a *nix to have them, like Windows has its Notepad. And vi works, I've used it for decades. It has a place if you know the history.
I've poked at vi enough to respect its utility. I'm a bit more comfortable in vim from habit (and vimwiki), but that could change if I needed it.
I hope we start seeing 'heirloom' projects forked from before the ai-sbestos problem began
