Multiple news outlets are reporting a US attack on an Iranian #desalination plant.
If verified, this violates international law protecting #water systems during wars, and it sets a dangerous precedent, given intense dependence of Gulf countries on desalination.

@petergleick Violating international law is a checklist of US military strategy. Happened right on time.
@drwho @petergleick sad thing no one gives a fuck or want to confront the u.s
@utf_7 @petergleick Nobody wants to get turned into a glass crater.

@drwho @utf_7 @petergleick

Not an airburst: no glass. I suspect that when Trump does direct the use of a nuclear weapon, it will be a tactical one, a B61-11 or B61-12, carried by an earth penetrating bomb, to supposedly destroy a bunker. It might happen soon, if more drama needs to be generated before the midterm election.

Unless he dies before he can manage to get it done. Only his own death could restrain him from getting his dirty, senile hands on everything he thinks he might violate.

@seachanged @utf_7 @petergleick But then the couchfucker would get the order to pull the trigger.

Think they'd go for an oil or natural gas deposit as a target?

@drwho @utf_7 @petergleick

My unqualified opinion is that it's not possible to destroy an oil or gas deposit with a single nuclear weapon. The deposits are very large and very deep compared to the reach of over-pressures that can be delivered by even a nuclear weapon buried at its optimum depth. The equipment on the surface is vulnerable, but I think the deposits are well-protected.

There's surprisingly good reading available on the topic:
