Well it has been fun. Been doing some Data transfers and disk cloning for a client and all was going well until things decided to go bad. So the client had a OS drive that needed cloning to a larger drive and expanding. Did that no issues.

As i was dusting out their computer and checking that everythging was working i started hearing that aweful sound no one wants a hard drive to make. a Seagate ST32000 was head banging. So i ordered a replacement......

... The Replacement arrived bashed to hell and rattling inside as if the platters shattered. There was no protection in the box at all during shipping. Also looks like someone took the moto on the side of the box to heart. Replacements are now delayed for a month and a half.

So i thought i would use one of my only hotspares. That server is currently down due to blood sacrifices gone badly. The hostpare drive failed an extended Smart Test and there are no longs as to why.......

So in order to just get this project done i made a run to the ONLY store that sells computer electronics in the area. BestBuy. Bought their only in stock Ironwolf Pro drive just to get this project done.

Formatted it with Gparted and all was looking well.. except the partition was refusing to mount. What was the solution? Turning it on and off a few times :|

Hopefully the Rsync will complete without failure before the source drive with the data keels over from a click of death.

One thing i realised is cloning a mbr disk to a disk larger than 2.5tb, well expanding the paritions becomes problematic. So instead of disk cloning, i am now rsyncing all files from a 2tb mbr formatted drive to an 8tb gpt formatted drive.
@Mirppc Ain't that a bitch? Also, the photo of the "slam dunk" is funny.
