Greetings friends on the Fedi in Southeast Asia.

As you know the situation here in the Gulf is quite complex at the moment. I am likely headed your direction in the near future and I am wondering if anyone has a lead on a week-to-week or month-to-month rental in one of the following:

Bangkok
Krabi
Ho Chi Minh City
Danang

Our only real requirement is strong reliable Wi-Fi for online teaching.

Thanks in advance for leads #tootsea

@natebowling @DebErupts Although I don’t have any advice for those particular spots (I’m in Chiang Mai atm), I wouldn’t worry too much about finding places. It’s super easy over here in general. I rarely pre-book anything, just go and sort it out. Wifi is generally orders of magnitude better the N.A. So far, we haven’t been much affected by the American clusterfuck in the Middle East, besides some lines for gas. (1/2)
Some smaller towns have reported running out of gas as people panic and over buy but that seems temporary. (2/2)
@natebowling I recently spent some months in Bangkok, and while I didn't have a private rental, I can recommend the Wire Bangkok hotel/guesthouse in Phra Khanong neighborhood.

It's modest and modern, the staff are kind, the price is okay and they do weekly/monthly rentals. I paid weekly and stayed there 4 months. The wifi is good (I worked from my room near daily) and there is also a working lounge that is often empty. The managers also run a quiet cafe by the first floor reception.

It's only about a 5 minute walk from Phra Khanong BTS station, but the layout of the working-class neighborhood keeps the area quiet. So, not in the expensive downtown part of Bangkok, but pretty handy to it. Plenty of cafes, a laundromat, and like three 7-elevens within a quick walk.

It might be a good fit, or at least a place to land while you check out other neighborhoods and ask around locally for leads.

This is incredible Intel and much appreciated. Thanks!

@natebowling You're welcome! Hope you can find just the right spot. I'm happy to try answering any questions about Bangkok too, if those come up. I only spent a few months but it was a fascinating place.

@valentine

We ended up bumming around in Koh Lanta, actually we still are. But I wanted to circle back and say thank you for this tip.

@natebowling You're very welcome! Are you having fun? I have a friend that traveled in that area and they really liked it.

Hope Thailand is being a delight. 🌺

@valentine

Yes, we have been here before. And we were planning to come here for spring break already. So we just stayed in the same area but moved from the cheapo beach hotel to an apartment with killer Wi-Fi.

@natebowling (I should point out that they have a hotel cat, who is very chill and stays downstairs, but in case you're allergic.)
