A day at the (AFL) footy: Greater Western Sydney Giants vs Hawthorn Hawks, at Engie Stadium. Giants won 122 to 95.

The stadium was originally built to host baseball for the 2000 Olympic Games, and it's still used 26 years later.

@ajsadauskas The crowd for today's game was 20,634, or around 88% of the stadium's capacity. Not the kind of crowds you see for AFL in Melbourne or even for the Sydney Swans, but really great for Western Sydney.

Aside from one grandstand, they opened up the top tier in Engine, and there were people right up to the very back row of the upper tier.

Large number of Hawthorn supporters. I'm not sure if the Hawks have a big fanbase in NSW, or just many headed up from Victoria? Anecdotally, it seemed like a mix of both.

I also saw a Sydney Swans supporter, and honestly I'm not sure who he'd be cheering for? I mean, the Giants are the rival club. But then Hawthorn and Sydney have played each other in more than one Grand final.
