Anyone speak #XMPP? I have a local #prosody server which has suddenly started to report everyone's presence as "not authorised", since I connected the Conversations Android client to it. Everyone can still send and receive messages, just not see presence information. Any ideas?
@RogerBW my girlfriend and I have the same client on the same version and she does not see my presence correctly while I do see her presence correctly. Haven't checked server logs yet to see if there is something relevant.
@daniel Client: Conversations 2.19.13+free m129 (via F-Droid), on LineageOS 23.2, Android 16. Which doesn't indicate presence status _at all_ for me and never has, but I put up with it because it's otherwise useful. Server: prosody 13.0.1-1 on Debian/13.3. Other clients: Pidgin 2.14.14-1 on Debian/13.3.
@RogerBW@discordian.social If conversations didn't ever make presence visible for you then there is some real issue with your server setup. (or it's disabled in the client setting?)
It should work for all versions between prosody and conversations since conversations exists, maybe beside one versions with a bug. Do you divert from the default config in any way? Maybe best would be so join some channel like xmpp:prosody@conference.prosody.im?join to sort it out. @daniel@gultsch.social
@menel@daniel Using pidgin (and home-written clients) it's all been fine. The problem only arose adding Conversations to the mix. I'm not saying Conversations is at fault but it's certainly a causal factor. Where would Conversations show me presence info? I just have a list of contacts with icons, names, dates, and the last thing they said.
@RogerBW@discordian.social I'm using conversations and prosody same as thousands of users without issues. That's why I think it must be some config issue.
For presence: Press on a contact | three dots menu | press contact info | then you should see a checkmark for receiving and giving online status. Both should be with a checkmark
