Mount Damavand is the highest of thousands of mountains in Iran. Visible from Tehran on a clear day, it's beauty is revered in Iran. In Persian mythology it's believed to house a three headed dragon that will be released at the end of the world.

And for those of us feeling a bit less apocalyptic, the mountains of Iran will make any U.S. led ground invasion a logistical nightmare.

And when I say Iran has thousands of mountains, I mean it. There are over 20,000, and that's just the ones that have been given names.

But yeah, good luck with that ground invasion...

I knew Iran had lots of mountains but I've never had reason to sit down and look at a map and consider what they looked like in terms of a ground invasion. It's really quite staggering.
@ProjectFearlessness @djembro I didn't know about Iran's mountains until I flew out of Abu Dhabi back towards the UK. It was really quite beautiful
