Trump thought he could do like Venezuela. Quick change of power, put an ally in place, no occupying military force needed. Looks like a hero. That’s what he wants for Cuba too.

But now he’s in deep shit. Every day the war continues without a change of power, he looks like a loser. War is not popular and oil price is skyrocketing, the entire opposite of what the game plan was to get mid term votes.
