Update on the Desktop saga. I finally got Windows 10 to install on it, however yep, something is definitely fucked. now it's repeatedly freezing or powering off after being booted and logged in, pretty quickly, too. Maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes after booting. Once it even booted into startup recovery.

@Bri Well shit. And you'd have to figure out which one it is before going to replace it... If windows is installed, could you get it running just long enough to schedule a memory diagnostic?
