This week I had reason to buy and set up a 4th gen iPod Nano (replacing a broken one used by an older relative who doesn't use smartphones etc). It was honestly pretty nostalgic. Creating a personal iTunes library, manually syncing music to a device, all that stuff, it's felt kinda... nice!

Of course, it was also a huge PITA in it's own right.

First I had to find the particular version of iTunes that actually supported the device. This took some time.

Then I had to scour the flash drive I had been given to find the scattered music files and resolve all of iTune's complaints about missing files. THAT part, I do not miss.

So yeah, not rushing back to this way of life, but it was neat nonetheless.
