what the FUCK is this shit

just randomly while making music

I HATE license bullshit, means I can't use this VST anymore, because it will stop me from having access to my music at some point (when their servers go down or whatever)

and so many VSTs have this!

FUCK YOU #SOUNDTOYS

@bazkie Hate to be the one, but Renoise works just fine, like out of the box, on basically any Linux distribution that ships with Pipewire, you can just "pw-jack ./renoise" and everything will magically work without any headaches whatsoever. Just kindly suggesting as I believe it could be less harmful to you. 😧

@armin I know that

the problem isn't renoise or the OS; the problem is a SoundToys VST with DRM BULLSHIT

@bazkie Yeah I ultimately gave up at some point, moving to Linux/macOS exclusively for these things. I realized you know what you're doing, but I still felt a need to mention it. I miss some of my old VST synthesizers: Albino, Massive, Absynth just to name a few...

@armin understandable 😢

I'm hoping, with microsoft going peak enshittification on windows, more VST creators will move to linux soon 🙏

@bazkie Agreed. However, I can recommend you to get a collection of just different *precisely* 1-period long waveforms (saw, sine, and so on) and abuse looped samplers in Renoise to "build your own synthesizers" (that would basically be a Rompler, to be precise). Renoise built-in effects are ultra cheap and you can chain tens of them and build meta-knobs that influence multiple of the effects in the chain. I do that a lot when I need to survive without VSTs.

@armin that's a fun idea to get rid of the VST dependence :)

also I use vital a lot, which is a VSTi but very "open"; I guess like a middle ground between your solution and "classic" closed/DRM ridden VSTi's. for me it's the easiest way to build stuff from scratch using basic waveforms
