The New York Times is doing a posthumous review of Kristi Noel’s unhinged and incompetent job in federal government.

But anyone who followed her governorship could have seen this coming a long time ago. She’s always been a corrupt and incompetent government official.

Here are a few of the hits.

Timeline: The Rise and Fall of Kristi Noem as Trump’s DHS Secretary

The homeland security secretary, who was fired by President Trump Thursday, helped fulfill his border pledges, but also drew negative attention to his administration.

The New York Times

She always styled herself as a Christian, pro-family politician. But she couldn’t answer a simple question, “Have you had sex with someone that is currently not your husband?”

Why couldn’t she answer it? Because she was under oath and she knew perjury charges would follow if she lied.

While governor, no offense was too small for Noem to chase. There was this one time where Noem bullied a high school student for posting a picture online that wasn’t to Noem’s liking.

Girls Stater Expelled After Posting Photo of Noem and Anti-Trump Message

I told you the Governor’s office did not want that picture posted. That’s coming from the Governor of this state. So you’re telling me you don’t have respect for that office…

In 2024, Noem started making unfounded accusations that cartels were operating on South Dakota tribal lands. The result? They banned her from setting foot on their property.

When all was said and done, Noem was banned from 20% of the state’s lands.

The voters of South Dakota voted to amend their constitution to legalize marijuana. Noem - who, again claimed she is about elections and family - led the successful charge to overturn the mandate. The case was brought by her appointee and decided by her appointee.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota judge on Monday struck down a voter-approved constitutional amendment that legalized recreational marijuana after Gov.

Then there was the time that her daughter flunked the real estate license exam, so her mother stepped in.

The result? Her daughter got the license and the head of the department that issues licenses “retired”.

Far from being a public servant, Kristi Noem seemed to think the voters of South Dakota should pay for her travel and security while she campaigned to get a job in the Trump administration.

We have the taxpayers of South Dakota to thank for her less than stellar job at the Department of Homeland Security.

Taxpayers helped finance Kristi Noem’s extensive travel and political rise

An Associated Press analysis has found that South Dakota taxpayers subsidized Gov. Kristi Noem’s cross-country campaigning to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. More than $150,000 in expenses — tied to her state-provided security detail — appears to be related to political activity. The expenses incensed conservative state lawmakers, who also criticized Noem for refusing to release the expenses incurred during her time as governor. Noem’s spokesman would not answer questions about the expenses and pointed to the travel of Democratic governors in other states.

And in case this thread didn’t convince you that Kristi Noem was basically a banana republic-style governor, we should revisit the case of South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.

Jason killed a pedestrian in his car, then reported it a day later. Yes, he was impeached. But not before the Republicans held a spirited debate on whether he should stay or go. The vote was *NOT* unanimous.

This is the type of government in South Dakota.

Former South Dakota AG Who Ran Down Pedestrian Fights To Keep Iowa Law License

Former South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg was impeached and stripped of his law license after running down and killing a pedestrian in 2020. Now he’s fighting to keep from losing his license to practice law in Iowa.

Cowboy State Daily

“The convictions required a two-thirds majority in the Senate, controlled 32-3 by Republicans. Senators mustered the bare minimum 24 votes to convict Ravnsborg on the first charge, with some senators saying the two misdemeanors he pleaded guilty to weren’t serious enough crimes to warrant impeachment.”

The lawlessness of Jason Ravnsborg’s actions - the state attorney general - along with this reaction tells you all you need to know about the Republicans of South Dakota.

South Dakota AG convicted on 2 impeachment charges, removed

The South Dakota Senate convicted Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg of two impeachment charges stemming from a 2020 fatal accident, removing and barring him from future office. The votes Tuesday were a stinging rebuke that showed most senators didn’t believe his account of the crash. Ravnsborg told a 911 dispatcher the night of the crash that he might have struck a deer or other large animal, and has said he didn’t know he struck a man — 55-year-old Joseph Boever — until he returned to the scene the next morning. Lee Schoenbeck, the chamber's top-ranking Republican, said there was no question in his mind that was a lie. Ravnsvorg “ran down an innocent South Dakotan,” he said. Ravnsborg declined to address lawmakers. He has maintained he did nothing wrong.

Trump distanced himself from the controversy over Noem's immigration ad campaign's contracts that cost about $200 million for production and air time...Trump's claims contradict what two senior White House officials told Axios last year when the ad campaign was approved.

No one, not even Trump, can get away from the incompetence of Kristi Noem. Both of this ice-holes are liars and charlatans.

How the ice finally broke under Kristi Noem

"She burnt up a ton of goodwill," a Trump adviser said. "It was everywhere. It was everything."

Axios

Alex Plechash, chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party, said he hoped Ms. Noem’s firing would “move the conversation away from personalities and back to the policies that matter.”

I wonder if Republicans would be so concerned about "personalities" if the government shot someone else. This is where we are at right now: no empathy or thought to Renee Good or Alex Pretti or the mismanaged funds or the incompetence or the corruption.

Minnesota Governor Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Welcome Kristi Noem’s Firing

Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis said “Good riddance” after Ms. Noem’s ouster. Gov. Tim Walz and others said they still wanted a “complete overhaul” of the department.
