Apple Log Explained in English

YouTube
@halide To the point, clear and illuminating. Very well done!
@halide I absolutely loved this video!

@halide I've got the Stalman Apple Log Conversion LUT's but when I try to import into Kino I get the attached error.

I was of the understanding you could import Stalman's LUT's into Kino or am I incorrect with this assumption?
Thanks.

@pauls Does that package include 33x33x33 LUTs? The film LUTs do, but we haven’t check that the log conversion ones do.
@halide I doubt they do as I'm selecting the only files in the package - I have those imported into Blackmagic.
I'm slightly confused what the difference is between what I've got and the film LUT's 🤔
@pauls @halide Hey Paul, I bought these in 2024 and they all load into Kino ok. I’ve also asked Tyler if there is an upgrade for them to support Apple Log 2.
@simonharper @halide Thanks, there are Apple Log 2 LUT's in my pack but just the size issue with Kino. Is there a reason for this size restriction given Blackmagic imports them? Just curious.
@pauls @halide the cube size dictates the grading precision, so for Resolve the larger size is used as it’s built do high accuracy grading for post production work. 33x33x33 is a good balance of speed and accuracy. Tyler does packs for iPhone so maybe the ones included in your pack are not?
@simonharper @halide Yea think I just need to get the other pack, thanks.
@pauls @halide maybe drop Tyler a message? He usually replies in a couple of days.

@pauls @halide i’d take a guess that even though the 16/17 Pro and likely Kino’s engine could probably handle the larger cube sizes easily, there is a trade off on app performance to keep things running smoothly for users on older less powerful hardware.

TBH honest, unless you have a professional reference/grading monitor set in a controlled lighting environment (like a post production studio), 99% of people would not even notice the difference.
