This is why blocking ads and trackers is not just a suggestion. It should be a baseline of your online existence.

@dangillmor

"you really should have read me" - The Terms and Conditions you clicked last year

I read them, the company said "what would you do if you disagree, leave?" and then I replied "I don't even have an account here precisely because of these shenanigans"
@dangillmor
I use Express VPN which blocks ads and location on all my devices at all times.
@dangillmor surveillance capitalism needs to end.

@dangillmor

It's a baseline requirement for anti-ID-Theft insurance.

It also stops drive-by malware installation. :D

@dangillmor I feel gross browsing on someone else's computer with Edge or something with no ad blocking and ads just everywhere, wall to ceiling, the content disappears into the middle of the page and gets broken up by autoplaying video ads. Not to mention the tracking.
@dangillmor this is probably why Meta and others are pushing for the OS to identify the user and for digital ids to access the internet (for the children, of course).

@dangillmor Advertising is a form of coercion, and advertisers should be shunned and ostracized from polite society.

It's violence of the worst kind: it's fundamentally designed to change your thinking and bend your will toward another's end, and work below the level of consciousness.
