One of the #Drupal's biggest problems is attracting new and younger contributors to the project, and doing things like having a gala that costs $125 to attend seems antithetical to having an open and welcoming community.

Anyone interested in organizing a counter-event during that same time that is open to everyone and explicitly welcoming to new and casual contributors?

@mikemccaffrey “Please come along and celebrate the 25th anniversary of this project, built by an incredibly diverse group of volunteers. But only if you are cis, white, straight, and rich”

@rachel @mikemccaffrey Hi Rachel - As you well know, DrupalCon location commitments are made by DA staff well over a year in advance. We are all doing what we can to make the best of a bad situation.

As for the gala, that is being organized completely independently of the Drupal Association. It is designed to be a community celebration, not a corporate event. Hopefully, the European community will organize a celebration in Rotterdam; if so, I'll see you there!

@gdemet @mikemccaffrey I am aware, yes. Hence why I’ve been quite reserved on my comments so far.
As it will be well over a year since Trump came to power, it will be enlightening to see where the next @drupalcon will be held. Then we will all know where priorities lie.
@rachel @mikemccaffrey If next year's @drupalcon is held in a place that is not welcoming to everyone in our community, then I know of at least one company that will not be sponsoring.
@gdemet @mikemccaffrey @drupalcon that is good to hear. I hope I don’t have to remind you 😉💙
