An Iranian drone apparently struck a USAF hangar at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, used in support of U-2 Dragon Lady reconnaissance operations.

Local reports and eyewitness accounts confirm a loud explosion shortly after midnight on 2 March, at around 00:03 lcal, coinciding with the impact of what was described as a Shahed-type drone.

Footage posted to social media showed smoke rising over the base.

External damage to the structure is consistent with a kinetic strike from a Shahed-136, which carries a 40-50 kg warhead. Internal damage from warhead detonation inside a hardened aircraft shelter would be significant but remains unconfirmed.

The U-2 flies the highest-priority strategic ISR missions in theater.
