Back then, I used to chat with mutuals from MSN and ICQ through a single chat client. I don't recall its name, but the recent debate about Discord alternatives made me think.

It is nice to have options but it would be even nicer if those options were also be connected.

Like if I could selfhost my chat logs, choose any client without depending on it and still stay connect with each other.

Maybe it does already exist and I don't know about it?
