Six years ago a client came to me. His landlord was trying to evict him over the last payment of a rent to own contract. The client had remodeled the entire house himself with his own hands, a room at a time.

Today, client won the house.

Some days are good days.

@theleftistlawyer Rent to own sounds interesting, how does it compare to the cost of an up-front mortgage?

@khleedril @theleftistlawyer cheaper up front but almost always more expensive over the lifetime of the contract than a mortgage. Plus like this time, you end up moving or get evicted and you're out all the principle you put in. They're generally only useful for people with bad/no credit or who really can't afford a down payment even with a second mortgage.
