The real story for the Neo isn't that its starting price is $599... it's that the price is _$499_ for students. They knocked it out of the park on the pricing. Interesting that recently, across the board for basically all models Macs are now really competitive on price.

@yiningkarlli my Macs with Sequoia need 10-14GB RAM idle, freshly rebooted, how are folks going to work with 8GB?

@crystalmoon If all you to on a MacBook is Safari/Keynote/Messages/Facetime, 8GB is more than fine. Basically Chromebook type use cases.

If you know what Mastodon is, you probably aren't the target user for the Neo. For computery people, the Neo obviously isn't going to be enough. For my grandma, the Neo is a no brainer buy.

I just had this conversation with a friend last weekend. They "wanted a Mac" but were frustrated that "they were all overpriced"

Aside from a couple specific upgrade prices, they really weren't then and they're really not now.
