Oh man, I just noticed on #ThePriceIsRight that the Check Game no longer actually uses a giant novelty check, they just have like, a withdraw slip now instead.
Not that I think anybody under 35 has actually written out either of these things in their life. Pretty sure 40 would be the cutoff for "formerly used checks everywhere because it was the same speed as a card without the card fees"
@BalooUriza The last few times I wrote checks was to pay local taxes. Then the county added online payments and so I was done with checks.
@mortonfox Last few times I used checks, the last ones I wrote were to a now-dead friend who knew I was good for it (despite the check having a phone number and address that I hadn't had in over a decade, in another state, and the bank branch address and phone number on the check was *LONG* gone, but the routing number and account number was good so they'd still clear). And the folks who were like, "No, we need current information on the checks", I just went and got a cashier check.
@mortonfox And *that* was long enough ago the bank I was with got bought by BMO since then and I spent half a year struggling with my credit card bouncing and getting locked out of my account before I had enough of their shit and moved to a local credit union.
@mortonfox Come to think of it, at least one of the times I wrote a check to that friend, it wasn't even on a check, but like, a random piece of paper hand-written in the correct format with the necessary ACH information because I couldn't remember/find where the fuck I put my checks.
