French president expresses 'European solidarity' with Spain after US threats over Madrid’s stance on Iran

Does Solidarity include not permitting France Airbases to be used in Iran bombing campaign?
whoaa, non non non
Doubt it. Solidary with Spain doesn’t necessarily translate to agreeing with Spain, but defending Spain’s right to sovereignty.
Similar to how someone’s defense of others’ free speech doesn’t translate to agreement of whatever it is that they say.
AFAIK there are neither US air bases in France (metropolitan or overseas) nor are any french air bases used by the USA. France uses Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE which is also used by the USA.

This is the correct answer. There are no permanent US owned bases on French soil. In the past, US forces have been temporarily deployed to French facilities for exercises or joint operations, but as far as I know, this is not the case right now.

France always had a somewhat sceptic view when it came to being dependent on the US

To add to your comment, in the past, there has been US bases in France. The US troops were evicted by De Gaulle when he exited France from NATO’s Military Command Structure. Some of these old US bases are now used by the french military.
Thank you, I learned something new today.
*skeptic 😉
You are absolutely right, De Gaulle made sure of that.
Are they being used?

No but it does include this: elysee.fr/…/joint-statement-by-the-leaders-of-fra…

Basically: Iran bad. We didn’t fire any missiles but are fine with US and Israel doing it.

Joint Statement by the Leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom on Iran.

France, Germany and the United Kingdom have consistently urged the Iranian regime to end Iran’s nuclear program, curb its ballistic missile program, refrain fro

As always, all about image, with little to show.

The frech have a fucked up police state, being trailblazers when it comes to surveilance in the EU and somehow every second protest ends in a riot, but when it comes to their european foreign policy, they are really solid.

And of course french political discourse, just like most european political discourse, downplays far-right violence, while overstating left-wing political violence. Like when recently a far-right provocateur died after starting a fight at a left-wing protest, and somehow a leftist party in France has to answer for his death?

somehow every second protest ends in a riot,

Start of violence has slowly switched from “some protesters sometimes are violent” to “police start it most of the protests” in the 00s through the 10s.

I think Sanchez is wrong, but I also think that he should be allowed to be wrong without dumb trade war threats by a supposed ally. Spain under his rule has been one of the worst in failing to comply with NATO spending targets. Personally, I’m glad that he’s on his way out in the next elections.

Macron et la France ont classe.

Spain is under absolutely no obligation to get involved in this entirely manufactured and utterly unnecessary war.
This is war for covering up Epstein files.
Fuck the piece of shit Merz and German govt that folded and surrendered to Trump as if they too are in Epstein files.
