(p.s.: nothing against flashy videos! the indie beat TV is great, and you're all very lovely and creative people and everything. But I strongly feel there should be a place for music to speak for itself, without people like me begging into the void for someone to please do a video with me)

@stephan crazy how much more « engagement » I got from releasing a few videos on TIBtv, compared to audio only releases. It’s a bittersweet affair, although I had fun making them, and didn’t make them for the views, which again, I hadn’t at all anticipated.

Also, somebody asked me if they could make a video from one of my tracks during a TIBtv chat. Just saying 😬

yeah, well, what can I say… whenever *I* asked for help (and I really asked nicely, and far too often), it was either crickets or people who know people who maybe possibly might be persuaded to do a video for me, only to be never heard from again.

Folks could have made videos for tracks from "The Drunken Fisherman", "Biike" *and* "Malers Hus"… even from "Strategies", but no, nothing, not interested.

I remain open to the possibility of doing a video. But I'm done asking.

Ok, sorry, that sounded angrier than it should have, and I'm really glad that many of you have positive experiences with videos.

It's just that I personally found the whole affair of looking for video collabs highly irritating and frustrating and I really don't see what I could have done different.

@stephan as I said, bittersweet. Love the collaborations on the fedi, nostalgic for the world before MTV, but I’m old. I love your initiative too. Both can coexist. And what I meant to say is spaces like TIBtv and bonkwave allow for chance encounters and collaborations in a space that is conducive to them.

@sknob yes, I understand… I get what you mean, and I'm not mad in any way :-)

I think most of my listeners from the Fedi still hail from the days when #fedivision was still a thing, and small enough so that you didn't need to scream and shout to make yourself heard. I loved it in that incarnation.

In its last year, it became a big "scream the loudest, get your vote" kind of event, and that kind of killed it.

But I maintain that something like that is dearly missing (…)

@sknob (…) and my experiences with the offline album clearly show that there are all kinds of artists and open minds longing for communication and exchange.

It would be great to have a platform (or maybe even just a event) where people could do just that, without having to advertise and peddle and scream and do the novelty act just to get people's attention.

(that said… I realize that #strategiesagainstalgorithms could also be seen as marketing campaign in the end. It was never meant as one, but of course it created a lot of interest by sheer virtue of being different and being against the status quo. In the long run, that's not sustainable and it's certainly not what I intended, although of course I don't complain about the attention…)

@stephan I totally get it. I spend more time trying to drum up interest for others (through NHAM and TIBtv) than promoting my own stuff, although the latter (plus bonkwave) have afforded me some notoriety.

I remember when you were lucky to even have your family listen to your stuff, and I’m still amazed I have listeners thanks to the internet. Plus having people you know and admire for their music tell you they liked something you did is worth sooo much more than “number go up“.
