@hectorjcorrea "Listener Fatigue" is a real thing, I've been saying that for many years.

I never realised how stressful listening to people was becoming until I got hearing aids, and I noticed I had just been totally making up most of the stuff I think I heard in conversations.

@Printdevil @hectorjcorrea I understand that. I'm not certain if this is the autistic side of my brain, but it likes to race to the end of the conversation before they get there, if you know what I mean.
The knock-on effect is I become impatient when people do the usual casual banter, side-quests, inconsequential detail, non-linear story-telling that just sets off my brain, making me wish I could say: "Could you get to the point, please?"

I find phatic exchange very hard going these days, and I think that's a result of the slow process of having trouble hearing and wanting people to get to the point. I think it's the same as becoming overweight, it happens one day at a time, it's not like you suddenly lost interest in people casual chit chat, but as it became more and more work, it gradually started to annoy me
