Politico is owned by the german Axel Springer SE, a publisher that also owns Bild, Fakt (polish) and Welt among others. The publisher and its news outlets (with the aforementioned Bild, Fakt and Welt most prominent) is a main driver for a news coverage and reporting that is jointly responsible for the rise of the far right in Germany and Europe. Politico itself has published so-called Native Ads, a form of advertisng that is designed like op-ed articles and other opinion pieces in a way that is hard to differeentiate from regular, non-sponsored content, mostly for fossile fuel companies but also healt insurance, finance and weapons industries. That sums up to a news outlet that should not be shared, not be trusted and hence, not be posted here. It was not an issue mostly since this outlet wasn’t posted here often , but recently, Politico articles are getting posted very frequently again, so I suggest the ban now. Edit: lost a word Edit 2: it should be noted that there is another publisher with a similar name (Springer Nature with several subsidiaries), but that company os not affiliated with Axel Springer SE and has different issues.
trollercoasterDöpfner and the Axel Springer conglomerate are the German equivalent to Rupert Murdoch and his media conglomerate in English speaking countries.
Be the change you want to see in the world. Give alternative sources, share articles, make the community vibrant with activity and informed discussions about the topic at hand.
The usefulness of this community depends on news being shared, with no activity there’s no reason to visit.
And like it or not, politico covers a lot of European politics and its being reported as factual and center left by bias and fact checking sites, so as a source it’s good enough, even if the owner is an ass.

Yeah, you don’t like Axel Springer media. So therefore nobody should be allowed to read Politico because… reasons; even though there’s nothing obviously wrong with Politico according to bias and fact checking sites.

It’s not about me not wanting to read it. It’s not even about the specific political leaning of the editorial office of Politico.
It’s about who profits and what that person dies with that profit. It’s like Hogwarts Legacy may be a decent game with trans representation, I still call to not buy it because a transphobe profits off that game and uses that profit to advance transbhobia.
But that’s true for everything. Or pretty much everything. Can’t buy anything with Visa. Can’t buy most food, can’t drive, etc.
You’d have to live in a hut in the forest and eat moss not too give money to asshats.
And until there’s an alternative, it will continue. Which is why I suggest you provide alternatives.
There is stuff you can go without and things to refrain from gets really hard without leaving society. And there are bad people and worse people. Döpfner is one of the worse and actively works on making this world and our society worse, too. And if you keep giving worse people profit, justifying with “Can’t help it, society is shit anyways so why not keep doing bad shit?” you are part of the problem.
And the alternatives are out there. All news outlet have Europe editorials. There is DW, there is BBC, there are national news outlets etc. Just gotta read them.
