One of the reasons I’m excited about #Fediprofile (aka https://hub.vocalcat.com) is identity portability.

Right now, people follow accounts. If I move servers, change handles, or create a separate profile for a different context, I risk losing that connection.

With Fediprofile, you follow my profile hub instead of a single account. (My fediprofile boosts all my accounts notes/create activities).

That means:

1. If I move my Mastodon/Pixelfed/etc. account to another server ... I just update my Fediprofile.

2.. If I add Pixelfed, Loops, or another ActivityPub account ... I link it.

I can even create separate profiles (professional me, playful me, project-specific me) ... I can structure that intentionally.

People keep following me, not a specific server address.

And if you combine this with self-hosting on your own domain, you get something even more powerful: one stable ActivityPub actor representing the parts of you that you choose to combine.

Your links, badges, and identity β€” powered by the Fediverse. The open-source, federated alternative to Linktree.

Is this the final, perfect solution to identity in the fediverse? Probably not. Actually, I am sure is not. It might be a workaround.

But it’s a feasible, working solution TODAY, while we collectively design and implement something better.

My #fediprofile functions almost as a relay of me. (And I still want to dig into how to make it 2 ways interactive with a @HolosSocial relay).

But Fediprofile feels like an accessible (and easy to understand) portable identity, server independent, user-owned presence.

And you can follow my #fediprofile today at @maho

@mapache @HolosSocial @maho I understand the benefit of grouping several accounts, but besides that, isn't this just replacing one nonportable identity with another? What am I missing
@aburka @HolosSocial @maho it is, that is why the important piece here is self hosting with your own domain. And that is why is a workaround.
@mapache @HolosSocial @maho I see yeah. But I could just migrate my regular accounts to my own domain
@mapache @HolosSocial @maho but then I wouldn't get a local feed or someone doing moderation for me or hashtags without a relay, etc

@aburka @HolosSocial @maho yeah you could, but selfhosting mastodon/pixelfed/lemmy/peertube, etc.. starts to take a toll specially for regular users.

Also there is still the issue that I need to follow many accounts. I know is not a perfect solution but probably accessible.

Now, fediprofile is multitenant, if we allow in an easy way to bring your own domain, users won't need to selfhost. I once did a local fork of mastodon where that was possible btw.

@mapache @HolosSocial @maho yeah I think I would only selfhost something like gts
